ABOUT LAKEWOOD SHORES
Our History
Lakewood Shores Golf Resort boasts a rich history dating back to the early 1900s when it was known as Serradella Farms, owned by innovative farmer Carl E. Schmidt. In the late 1960s, developers transformed the land into a golf community called Lakewood Shores, featuring homesites, a private golf course, and various amenities.
Entrepreneur Stan Aldridge purchased the struggling golf course and adjoining land in 1986 and began developing it into a golf resort in 1990 with the introduction of on-site lodging. Aiming to offer exceptional golf at an affordable price, Stan's son Kevin Aldridge designed and built The Gailes, a course inspired by Scotland's renowned seaside courses. In 1993, Golf Digest ranked The Gailes as the "#1 Best New Resort Course in the United States," setting the stage for the resort's future growth.
Lakewood Shores Resort continued to expand with additional lodging, The Wee Links pitch-and-putt course, and the opening of its third course, Blackshire, in 2001. Today, the resort remains committed to providing an unforgettable golf experience for its guests.
Our Amenities
Golf Digest recognized The Gailes at Lakewood Shores Resort as "The Best New Resort Course in the United States" in 1993 and "The Number One Public and Resort Course in Michigan" in 1996. Designed to emulate Scotland's renowned seaside courses, The Gailes features large double greens, winding burns, and long fescue grasses, offering an authentic Scottish golf experience without leaving Michigan.
Blackshire, the resort's newest course, is designed to resemble the esteemed Pine Valley Country Club, showcasing rugged terrain with hardwoods, expansive sand waste areas, and undulating greens. The Serradella serves as a perfect complement to these championship courses, providing a classic parkland design with minimal hazards, wide fairways, and large greens adorned with stunning floral gardens.
Families can enjoy the Wee Links, an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course designed specifically for children and parents, featuring holes ranging from 30 to 100 yards. At Lakewood Shores Resort, guests can expect value, variety, and attentive, friendly service.
The resort also offers numerous family activities, including a private beach on Cedar Lake for swimming, jet skiing, canoeing, and fishing. Nearby attractions include the beautiful beaches of Lake Huron, horseback riding, and more, making it the perfect destination for relaxation and leisure.
